When to visit

Let us help you plan your trip to Alice Springs, with an outline if the best time to visit whether it’s for a few days or a longer stay in the NT. Known as the Red Centre for good reason, the summer is particularly hot around 20 to 40 °C from December to February, with January being the wettest month. Autumn (March to May) is one of the best times to visit Alice Springs with warm days and cool nights. Average temperatures range from 12 to 27°C. To the other extreme of winter, July being the coolest month, nighttime temperatures can drop below 0°C and thick frost on the ground can resemble snow.

What is the main airport called?

Alice Springs (ASP). The airport services domestic flights only and is located 15km from the town centre. The taxi rank and shuttle service is located outside the terminal.

Arriving at Alice Springs Airport

When your Qantas flight to Alice Springs touches down, you’ll be welcomed by the friendly staff at Alice Springs Airport to get your visit to Central Australia off to the right start. It’s located 14 kilometres from the CBD, about a 15 minute drive.  Once you collect your bags from the baggage collection area, there are a number of different transport options available to get you on your way. A range of retail facilities, wi-fi, services and amenities are available for visitors to use at the airport.

Getting into Alice Springs

At the airport rental cars, taxis, shuttle bus services are readily available for hire outside the terminal building.

Getting around Alice Springs

Central Alice Springs is small enough to explore on foot. Bus and taxi services are also available and it’s wise to use taxis at night for safety reasons. If you’re visiting the national parks, Uluru and Kata Tjuta, you’ll need a hire car or join a guided tour.
