When to visit

Frankfurt has a temperate-oceanic climate with annual temperature of 10.6°C, the monthly mean temperatures range from 1.6°C in January to 20°C in July. Summers in Frankfurt can get very warm, up to 25°C in August. The best time to visit Frankfurt, is during October to join in the Frankfurt Book Fair. Spring and autumn are also popular times to visit, with the cherry blossoms in April, Easter and fountains light up the city. Winter is cold, but magical with the Christmas market, though pack a warm jacket as temperatures drop to near freezing.

What is the main airport called?

Frankfurt Airport (FRA). Also known as Rhein-Main-Flughafen, is a major international airport located in Frankfurt, Germany. The airport is located 12 km southwest of the city centre. 

Arriving in Frankfurt

When your flight arrives on Frankfurt, you’ll be welcomed by the staff the airport to get your visit off to the right start. 

Getting into Frankfurt from Frankfurt Airport   

With a range of transport options available at Frankfurt Airport, travelling into the city centre is easy. Choose from train, bus, taxi, coach, hotel shuttle, car rental or Uber. Travelling by train is an efficient way to reach Frankfurt from the airport. There are a couple of train stations at the airport for suburban and regional trains. The S Bahn are the regional trains for short distances and the station is located on the ground floor of the airport, below terminal 1. You can get to the main train station in Frankfurt, which takes 11 minutes. U Bahn is the Frankfurt metro and takes 8 minutes to get into the city. Long distance trains can take you to other destinations in Germany. On the Airliner bus, you can transfer to the city in 30 minutes or local buses also run to the city centre. Taxi is a convenient way to travel with ranks located outside both terminals, or you can book an Uber. It's possible to rent a car, use the car sharing system or organise a hotel transfer.

Getting around Frankfurt

Getting around Frankfurt is simple and public transport is the best way to easily travel all over the city and often faster than a car. The U- Bahn (subways), S-Bahn (commuter trains), trams and buses form the network. The system is well organised, safe and punctual. The U-Bahn works with the train system and trains run every 2 to 5 minutes in the city. The S-Bahn are the city trains and travel around the city centre and surrounding suburbs, with regular services. Buses run through Frankfurt and bus stops are marked with a green "H". It's a good idea to buy an all-day ticket to see the sights. Renting a car is not necessary for travel within Frankfurt, but can be helpful for traveling around the country and exploring the world-famous Autobahn. Biking is a good way to travel around Frankfurt, you can use one of the many bike-sharing systems or you can easily walk around. You can get a taxi at one of the city stands, hail one on the street or book an Uber. Alternatively, you may wish to join a tour.
