When to visit

Weather in the Hawaiian Islands is very consistent, with only minor changes in temperature throughout the year. There are really only two seasons in Hawaii: summer (kau) from May to October and winter (hooilo) from November to April. The average daytime summer temperature at sea level is 29.4°C, while the average daytime winter temperature is 25.6°C. Temperatures at night are considerably lower than the daytime. The wettest months are from November to March, but winter rains do not generally disrupt vacation plans, since the weather is very localised. This means that if it is raining where you are, there is almost always a sunny spot to be found around the coast.

Arrival information

What is the main airport called?

Honolulu International Airport (HNL) located on the island of Oahu, is Hawaii's largest airport. It's only 17km from the famous Waikiki Beach. HNL has four active runways, landscaped with the beautiful trees and flowers of the Hawaiian Islands, the airport (HNL) plays host to more than 21 million passengers each year. The airport is served by international and domestic carriers, interisland airlines and commuter airlines. The airport has its own retail stores, restaurants and bars, business centre, automated teller machines, hair salon, currency exchange, post office, car rental agencies and other travel related businesses.

Arriving in Hawaii (Honolulu)

The warm staff at Hawaii (Honolulu) Airport will be waiting to greet you when you land. The airport offers a Visitor Information Program (VIP) to assist travellers, that is staffed from 5:00 a.m. to 10:45 p.m daily. (Hawaii Standard Time) Once you collect your bags from the arrivals area, there are a number of different transport options available to get you on your way.

Getting into Hawaii from Hawaii (Honolulu) Airport

Once you arrive in Honolulu, you can book a transfer to your hotel in Waikiki or to the cruise terminal taking you to the outer islands. Rental car companies, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, National and SIXT are located on airport and are a convenient way to get you your accommodation. There are ride share options, book a pre-arranged transfer and courtesy car services. The Roberts Hawaii Express Shuttle provides affordable on demand island wide transfer services from the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) to your home, hotel, or office and departs daily.

Getting around Hawaii

The city and county of Honolulu provides an island-wide bus transport system that goes from the airport to downtown Honolulu, the Honolulu Civic Center, Ala Moana Shopping Center and ends in Waikiki. To explore most of the islands requires a hire car, with the exception of Oahu which has an extensive public bus network. Car hire in Hawaii is cheap, the roads are easy to navigate and you can get to all those gorgeous beaches off the beaten track. With regular inter-island flights and ferries for island-hopping it’s easy to just pick an island and take it from there.
