When to visit

The best time to visit Lima is from December to April. As Lima is in the Southern Hemisphere these months offer warm, summer weather with temperatures averaging around 20 to 25°C. The city has moderate temperatures throughout the year, very little rainfall, though high humidity. If you visit in May to November, there is a thick sea fog that hangs over the city with overcast skies.

Arrival information

What is the main airport called?

Lima Airport (LIM). Officially known as Jorge Chavez International Airport. It is the main international airport serving Lima, the capital of Peru. It's located in Callao, 11 km from Lima city centre.

Arriving in Lima

The friendly staff at Lima Airport will greet you when you land and assist you with your travel needs. Once you collect your bags from the arrivals area, there are various transport options available to get you on your way.

Getting into Lima from Lima Airport

Getting into Lima from the airport is easy, thanks to the different range of transport options available. Choose from taxis, bus, hotel shuttle or car rental. Taxi is a comfortable option with counters located outside the domestic and international arrivals area. It takes around 25 minutes to reach Lima city centre, depending on the traffic and taxis run on a fixed rate. Alternatively, you can book a private transfer or organise a hotel shuttle. The Lima Airport Express bus is a safe way to travel to your destination with various stops from Lima Airport to Miraflores along the way. There are regular services and it’s a fast and cost-effective way to get to your destination. Car rental is available with various providers to choose from and is a good way to discover the city.

Getting around Lima

Thanks to Lima's extensive bus and metro system, it is easy to travel around the city. Buses are an efficient way to travel from one district to another as buses have private lanes to beat the traffic. The metro is a good way to travel and get to the historic centre. It's best to buy a reloaded travel card to use on the bus and metro. Taxis are a good way to explore more of Lima's popular districts, though taxis are unregulated so it’s best to get your hotel to arrange one for you. If you do hail one on the street, make sure you agree on a price before you get in the car. You can walk around central Lima to soak in the sights and spend the day strolling Miraflores. There are plenty of plazas to relax at along the way.
