Places to stay
Charming beach bungalows, villas with private pools, family-friendly resorts or luxurious stays on stilts - Vanuatu has a place for every kind of traveller to relax and recharge.
Efate Island is an excellent option for families, with the areas of Erakor and Eratap offering calm lagoons and relaxed resorts not far from the capital Port Villa. For an adults-only experience on Efate Island, The Havannah is a romantic boutique resort perfect for couples wanting a secluded stay and a private pool.
For an authentic experience, the bungalows and guesthouses of Malekula Island are best to soak up Island life. With budget-friendly tree houses and jungle Airbnbs aplenty, the island of Tanna is ideal for those that wish to sleep amongst the trees.
For a hideout that’s away from it all, Ratua Private Island is a former coconut plantation turned private island resort. Whatever kind of island escape you’re after, Vanuatu is a pristine and unspoiled destination with an incredibly diverse range of accommodation options.
Things to do
Hit the ground running by visiting the island of Tanna. Hire a car to drive across ash plains up to the crater rim of Mount Yasur and witness lava storms bubbling in the world’s most active volcano. On the western side of Tanna, discover the mystical hidden Blue Cave, only accessible by a swim-through passageway.
If you’d rather view the jungle from above, Vanuatu’s Jungle Zipline in Port Vila is a must. Instead of flying above the trees, climb up inside the hollow centre of one at The Giant Banyan in the village of Leitouapam on Tanna Island.
Once you’ve seen the sights of the jungle, head for the sea. Known for its incredible marine life and the world’s only underwater post office, the marine sanctuary surrounding Hideaway Island is a haven for divers and snorkellers. To experience local life, Pele Island is a perfect day out for the family. Every Island in Vanuatu is as unique as it is beautiful.
