Vehicles important information

Payment will be collected by individual car rental agencies at collection or return of the vehicle. Other charges such as tolls, fuel, local fees may also be payable.

Valid for vehicle rentals booked using Qantas Points within New Zealand, United States and Canada, or Points Plus Pay - Cars within Australia only.

Classic Car Rewards are available on Avis car rentals in Australia, New Zealand, United States and Canada subject to availability. In order to book, members must use only Qantas Points at the time of booking. Qantas Points cannot be used on package tour, government, travel industry, some corporate rates and in conjunction with any other offer, coupon or promotion. When booking an Avis Signature Series group a $200 additional pre-authorisation applies. One-way rentals are not permitted on Avis Signature Series vehicles.

You must be a member of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program to earn Qantas Points. A joining fee may apply. Membership and Qantas Points are subject to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program terms and conditions. Qantas Frequent Flyer members will earn 4 Qantas Points per A$1 spent on the daily base rate (time and kilometer charges) on qualifying rental rates within Australia on Avis and Budget ancillaries nor optional extras such as car seats, coverage, excess reduction or roadside assistance. Qantas Points are not accrued on fees nor charges including but not limited to excess kilometers, one-way fees, airport fees, late return fees, collection or recovery costs, electric vehicle recharge fees, roadside callout fees. Package holiday rentals, government rates, industry discounted rates, group rates, some corporate rates, other special promotional rates and miscellaneous charges are not eligible to receive Qantas Points.When using Qantas Points, points can be earned at the standard 4 Qantas Points per $1 rate will apply. Qantas Points cannot be earned on Classic Car Rewards. 700 Qantas Points will be earned per rental outside of Australia with Avis and Budget when using when using cash or Qantas Points (excluding Classic Car Rewards). Qantas Business Rewards customers will earn an additional 4 Qantas points per A$1 spent on time and kilometre charges when they add their ABN at the time of car rental when booking Avis and Budget car bookings. 

Points can only be earned by one member and cannot be split between multiple members on the same rental. Qantas Points will be credited up to eight weeks after car rental.

Retrospective claims will only be processed if the rental occurred no more than six months prior to receipt of the Member's claim. Retrospective claims or claims for points omitted from the Activity Statement will be accepted only if a copy of an Avis rental agreement or an Avis rental number is provided as proof of rental. Vouchers, charge card vouchers and confirmation advice will not be accepted.

The rental price and any quoted taxes and charges are approximate only and include GST. Refer to the table above for other fees and charges, including credit card fees and/or surcharges, or contact your car provider for details.

Avis and Budget Qantas Frequent Flyer vouchers can be redeemed for car bookings made on qantas.com when paying in cash and cannot be used when redeeming Qantas Points. The Frequent Flyer voucher must be presented to Avis or Budget upon collection of the vehicle. Redemption is subject to availability of cars. Each voucher can be applied to the total cost of one rental only and credits will be issued for unused portions. One-way rentals are not permitted. Vouchers can only be redeemed at Australian locations for bookings made on qantas.com at least 48 hours prior to pick up. A valid credit card must be presented at the time of rental. Special requests, such as a child seat, can be made at the time of booking if available.  If a special request is made, after the booking is complete, contact the car provider directly. Additional fees apply and are payable directly to the car provider. Their contact details will be provided in your booking confirmation e-mail.

Mystery Car bookings made through qantas.com will be allocated by BudgetOpens in a new tab or window Group and will be subject to their standard terms and conditions.

Manager's Special Car bookings made through qantas.com will be allocated by Hertz and will be subject to their standard terms and conditionsOpens in a new tab or window.

On collecting the rental vehicle at the pick-up location, you're required to show your physical driver's licence, provide a physical credit card or debit card, and to read and accept the car provider's rental conditions. A deposit or security bond may apply; see the fees and charges outlined above for more information.

You must be 21 years or older and hold a full driver's licence to rent a vehicle with Avis, Budget, Hertz and Thrifty in Australia.

Avis - The minimum age to drive a vehicle with Avis is 21 years of age. If renting from an Avis Signature Series group, the minimum age to drive a vehicle is 25 years. All drivers must hold a current, full and valid driver's licence, that has been valid for a minimum of 12 consecutive months. Digital driver’s licences are only accepted in the issuing state. If you’re travelling interstate, you must present a valid physical (plastic licence). 

Budget - The minimum age to drive a vehicle with Budget is 21 years of age. All drivers must hold a current, full and valid drivers licence, that has been valid for a minimum of 12 consecutive months. Digital driver’s licences are only accepted in the issuing state. If you’re travelling interstate, you must present a valid physical (plastic licence). 

Hertz - The minimum age to rent a vehicle with Hertz is 21 throughout Australia with an additional Young Renter fee. However, the minimum age for Prestige, Dream and Adrenaline Collection© vehicles is 25 years old.

Thrifty - You and any person driving the vehicle must be 21 years of age or over (unless approved beforehand in writing by Thrifty) and must hold and present a current driver's licence that the driver has held for at least 12 consecutive months.
