Investing in our fleet: Major aircraft upgrades and arrivals

Latest News|Published 27 February 2025

Today we’re excited to share details of a major refurbishment program for our 737 aircraft, a key part of our domestic services. Investing in our fleet is one of the most effective ways to enhance the flying experience for our customers and ensure we consistently provide an exceptional travel experience.

We've already welcomed 11 next-gen aircraft, with another seven expected to arrive in the coming months, including our first Airbus A321XLR, with Qantas among the first to operate this model. Our network also continues to expand, now connecting our customers to over 100 destinations worldwide. Recently, we've added Perth to Busselton, launching next month, and the popular leisure destination of Sapporo, announced last month.

We’re thrilled to share these exciting investments in our customer experience, fleet, and cabins. Additionally, we'll soon be rolling out enhancements to our Qantas NDC Servicing and Support, all part of our commitment to supporting you on the Qantas NDC journey as we approach the launch of our new indirect distribution model on 1 July 2025.

Boeing 737s to get a cabin upgrade

Our Boeing 737s are set for a cabin upgrade, enhancing the inflight experience across forty-two aircraft. The upgrades include new Business and Economy seats with charging technology, refreshed interiors, and larger overhead lockers for carry-on baggage. These improvements will ensure that flying with us remains fresh and modern as our new fleet continues to arrive. The first upgraded 737 will take to the skies in 2027.

New A321XLR touching down soon

The countdown has begun for the arrival of our first Airbus A321XLR. Currently in final assembly at Airbus' Finkenwerder facility in Hamburg, Germany, the aircraft has been painted in the iconic Qantas livery. Named Great Ocean Road after one of Australia’s most famous coastal highways, this new aircraft will pay homage to its predecessor, the 737, by carrying the same registration, VH-OGA.
