Whitehouse Institute of Design has come a long way since founder Leanne Whitehouse started teaching classes in her Sydney garage in 1988. Today, the renowned private university has 70 staff and around 700 students across three campuses in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. “Leanne and I are always flying,” says co-executive director Daniel Clements. “Design is a tactile field and it’s very much skills-based learning. We have to be in person to do what we do.” Clements shares how they utilise travel and Qantas Business Rewards to go further – in style.
“We opened our second campus in Melbourne in 2008. Travel is an investment that’s helped the business grow; since joining 10 years ago, I’ve flown all over Australia to meet with career advisors, teachers and students to share what a career in design could look like.
Whitehouse was an early member of Qantas Business Rewards and is now Level 3, which gives us savings of up to 10 per cent on flights.”

“Leanne was on a trip to Brisbane and said, ‘We need to open here, there’s incredible energy.’ I relocated from Sydney with my partner and we opened our third campus, at Kangaroo Point, in 2022. I call it the resort campus – there’s even a pool. Our Bachelor of Design students can study at all three of our campuses – they can change cities every 12 weeks if they want. Our Brisbane student numbers have grown 100 per cent year-on-year and in the first year we opened, I used the business’ Qantas Points to fly all of the students down from Brisbane to Sydney to put on a fashion show. We also use our points to fly our teachers around Australia and to reward them with upgrades when we can. It’s a gesture that acknowledges their hard work and dedication.”
Tip: Did you know you can use your business' Qantas Points± to book flights across Qantas, Jetstar, and selected partner airlines directly from your Business Account.
“Our reputation is built on having an industry-leading curriculum that’s commercially focused and updated every three months.
We can only do that by going to London, Paris, New York and Milan for the fashion shows.
Leanne and I bring back all the latest innovations in international design for our teachers and our students and we update all the creative briefs.”
