Service Dogs
A service dog is a dog that has been trained to assist a person with a disability to alleviate the effects of that disability, being either a Guide Dog, Hearing Dog or Assistance Dog.

Your Customer's Booking
Please add all required codes, including PETC (Pet in Cabin), before you end transaction to ensure your customer’s booking is auto queued to our Specific Needs team. We’ll contact your customer to obtain all required documentation but it is recommended either you or your customer call Specific Needs once the booking is completed to avoid delays.
Economy Cabin
For Service Dog bookings within weight and length limits:
- An extra seat is required for the Service Dog to occupy the floor space in front of the vacant adjacent seat. There is no charge for the additional seat.
For Service Dog bookings within weight limits but length is between 86-129cms:
- Please contact Specific Needs prior to making the booking to ensure the Service Dog is able to be carried on-board the required flights. In order for the Service Dog to be carried on the aircraft, 3 seats will be required in a row on the aircraft.
For Service Dog exceeding 45kgs and 129cms in length:
- They will be unable to be carried in the aircraft cabin. Please refer to the Travelling with PetsOpens in a new tab or window policy to see if they are still able to travel on the same flight as your customer.
Booking Instructions
- Book the total number of seats required, including the extra seat/s in one booking and one name field.
- Create two names in one element using the standard name format.
- Enter EXST as the second name element (same surname) with NO title.
- For Amadeus only add an IDEXST to the actual passenger name:
e.g NM2BROWN/JOHN(IDEXST)/EXST - If two extra seats are required (for Service Dogs between 86-129cm), create three names in one element and add the third name element as BROWN/SEATPAID
- Add SSR PETC (Pet In Cabin) to include the type of Service Dog and name relate it to the passenger – this entry will ensure the booking is queued to our Specific Needs team
- Add SSR BLND, SSR DEAF or SSR MAAS as required and include the types of Service Dog
- Add SSR OTHS
- Service Dog Length (in centimetres) x Weight (in kilograms)
- Service Dog Training Organisation (Name of Organisation)
- Service Dog Name (name of dog)
Ticketing Instructions
As one seat is provided free of charge, the ticket is issued in the name of the customer at the applicable fare for their journey with no extra charge for the service dog.
If an additional chargeable seat is booked, the surcharge for the extra seat must show in the fare calculation as a Q surcharge following the first and last cities of the segments to which the surcharge applies.
For example: SYD QF LAX QF NYC M2007.00 Q SYDNYC2007.00 NUC4014.00
An ‘EX’ must be added to the fare basis of the ticket issued for the flights where the extra seat has been paid. After the fare basis, enter a space followed by the ticket designator ‘EX’.

Premium Cabins
Service Dogs can generally travel on any aircraft type and/or in any cabin, pending seat availability. Please contact Specific Needs prior to making a booking to confirm you can proceed.
Booking Instructions
- Add an SSR PETC (Pet In Cabin) to include the type of Service Dog and name relate it to the passenger
- Add SSR BLND, SSR DEAF or SSR MAAS as required and include the types of Service Dogs
- Add SSR OTHS
- Service Dog Length (in centimetres) x Weight (in kilograms)
- Service Dog Training Organisation (Name of Organisation)
- Service Dog Name (name of dog)
Ticketing Instructions
